What is Short Term Braces (STB)?

Short Term Braces is a modern twist on tried-and-true orthodontics. STB is an effective method to give patients straight, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile in a reasonable amount of time. Average treatment times of STB is only 6 months and that is why STB is oftentimes called Six Month Braces.

Why does it move so fast?

The STB Technique utilizes the latest technology combined with time tested orthodontic techniques to move your teeth quickly and safely. The majority of the cases take 6 months to complete, more severe cases may take an extra two to three months, simpler cases may only take 5 months! Also, it is important to realize that the technique focuses on creating a beautiful smile for adults and as such does not require significant movement of the back teeth as one would expect in the more comprehensive treatment of a child’s case.

Does The Short Term Braces Technique use high forces to move the teeth?

No. Actually the STB Technique is a low force technique. Many people think we just “tighten” the braces like crazy to get the teeth moving. This would actually slow down tooth movement. To reiterate, the Short Term Braces Technique is a low force technique.

Are STB more painful than regular braces?

No, STO technique uses low forces to move the teeth not high forces that can cause pain.

Will the STB alter my speech?

Patients will only find that their speech is altered during the initial week or so after the initial fitting after which they become used to the braces and their speech returns to normal. You might also find that you salivate at first but this too will settle quickly.

Do I need to wear braces on all my teeth?

Yes, but we offer clear braces. The clear braces blend into your teeth making them nearly invisible!

How often do I have to come in?

Usually every 4 weeks for a 15 to 30 minute appointment, and a little longer for the appointment when we put the braces on.
